LEVY: Fully fund schools

| May 2, 2021 1:00 AM

I’m writing today as a parent of three kids who have been/are being educated by the Post Falls School District. My two daughters began their education at Seltice Elementary and both are graduating from the University of Idaho this year with honors. My son is currently a student at Post Falls Middle School.

I was born and raised in North Idaho and have lived here my whole life. I am a homeowner, as well as a local small business owner.

One thing I have always been impressed with is the level of quality education that the Post Falls School District has provided while still being fiscally responsible and keeping the lowest possible annual levy requests.

Idaho’s education dollar allotments are built around local control. The state provided funding covers the bare minimum and each local district’s citizens, through bonds and levies, make up the rest of the necessary budget shortage. It’s designed this way so we can make sure our school board and superintendent are making the choices we as a community support. Supplemental levies ensure that our schools have access to school resource officers, school nurses, school athletics and other extracurriculars.

We’ve all been saying over the last year that we want to get back to normal. I suggest we do that by voting yes for the supplemental levy. The same responsible, reasonable levy that we all have been supporting as long as I have lived here. Let’s not fall for the scare tactics of those that don’t want to pay their fair share and let’s make sure our schools are fully funded, for all of our kids.
