HEROES: Koch to the rescue

| March 21, 2021 1:00 AM

The article March 17 about Jameson Elliott was an awesome story about a quick thinking teenager who ran to get an AED when a friend of mine had a cardiac arrest while playing pickleball. By no means do I want to take away from Jameson’s part — he sounds like an outstanding talented young man, but having been there, I was remiss not to see the real hero of the day mentioned.

Tony Koch is a recently retired nurse who felt for a pulse and immediately started compressions on my friend. He knew exactly how to do this as he’d done it before saving the life of a triathlete in Coeur d’Alene. So having witnessed him save one life and knowing there is another person out there who is indebted to Tony — I thought it was long overdue to give kudos to this kind self-effacing man who is a rock star to many. Thank you Tony, for being you.

Also, thanks to the many support staff at the Hayden Country Club — the cooks, the golf instructor, the managers who were so helpful and the club for having the AED — every company should have these available — you just never know when you could save a life.
