| March 3, 2021 1:00 AM

David Lee Mallery (“Dave”) was born in Snoqualmie Falls, Wash., on Sept. 18, 1947, to Earl and Vivian Mallery (nee Bluher).

David passed away on Feb. 27, 2021, in Post Falls, Idaho.

David graduated from Mount Si High School in Snoqualmie Falls, Wash., in 1965.

In 1967 he joined the Army and served two tours in Vietnam, earning a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was honorably discharged July 7, 1969.

He married Linda Gere on May 16, 1970, in Snoqualmie Falls. He moved to Nampa, Idaho, and their son, Ryan, was born in May of 1974. Linda passed away on Feb. 7, 1990, from an extended battle with cancer.

He graduated from Northwest Nazarene college in Nampa, in 1974, with a bachelor's degree in psychology, sociology and criminal law. During college he worked as an intern doing pre-sentence investigations for the department of corrections, and was hired April 25, 1981.

He worked at Safeway in Bellevue, Wash., before beginning a successful career with the Idaho Department of Corrections in 1972. David retired from IDOC on May 1, 2001.

He married Tresia McLean Miller on April 18, 1991 in Post Falls, at the Methodist church.

David was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Linda, and brother, Mike Mallery.

He is survived by his wife, Tresia; daughters, Stephanie Miller and Stacey Brearley (John); sons, Shade Miller (Kelle Poole) and Ryan (Carly); grandchildren, Ian Desantiago (Abby), Alexandra Chandler (Tylor), Gabrielle McKelvey, Kaeleen Tobin (Thomas) and Aaron DeSantiago (Mallory); great-grandchildren, Tyson Chandler, Gwen DeSantiago, Oakley Chandler, Felix DeSantiago, Forest Tobin and Marley Chandler; brothers, Earl and Steve Mallery; and sisters, Lynn Mallery, Barb Churchill, Debbie Peterson and Carla Petree.

David, Dave, husband, Dad, Grandpa, Papa wore so many different hats. First and foremost, he will be remembered for his kindness and his humor. Dave was always busy helping those around him and while doing so, he usually had a twinkle in his eyes, probably because he was up to some silly prank to bring joy and laughter to those he was helping.

Dave was full of boundless energy, which he liked to burn off by gathering, stacking and donating firewood, plowing driveways for everyone who would let him on Signal Point Mountain with his four wheeler, giving rides to those in need (although they were usually white knuckling it, haha) and by chasing his grandkids and great-grandchildren around the pond or raking leaves with them.

His sense of humor was infinite! Dave and God surely had an inside joke between the two of them, and there is no doubt that the Lord put him here to bring laughter to everyone’s lives. God also gave him an oversized heart, which Dave never stopped putting to use. It would take a book about the size of a bible to recount his good works and kind deeds.

David was a celebrated member of Northwest Family Church. David faithfully attended Northwest Family Church (previously called Pleasant View Church), which helped him live out his faith by worshipping God and generously giving to others. His life as a man of God was a blessing to all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s hospital.

A viewing will be held from 3-5 p.m. on Friday March 5, 2021, at English Funeral Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 6, 2021, at Northwest Family Church, 19587 W. Riverview Drive, Post Falls, Idaho. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Post Falls. Please visit David’s online memorial at www.englishfuneralchapel.com.
