SALT LAKE CITY — Albion Academy of Las Vegas scored the game’s only goal on a penalty kick in the final 20 minutes to edge the Timbers North 05 boys soccer team 1-0 in the U16 championship game at the U.S. Youth Soccer Far West Presidents Cup on Sunday morning.
With the victory, Albion advances to the USYS National Presidents Cup in Des Moines, Iowa, on July 7-11.
The Timbers won three of their five games (in five days) at the tourney.
The Timbers were trying to become the second local team in four years to advance to the National Presidents Cup. In 2018, a Sting Timbers girls U18 team finished second at nationals in Indiana.
