Lawnmowers to race in Spirit Lake

The “Big Back-In” is back.
The lawnmower races on Maine Street in Spirit Lake are scheduled Sunday, June 20, which is Father’s Day. Time trials begin at 10 a.m. and racing starts at noon.
Restrictions include: "All mowers shall be in good working order. Gasoline engines only. No Nitrous oxide. All lawnmowers shall retain the original style frame, engine. Any modification to the frame must incorporate the original frame. All mowers will have a tethered kill switch and a spring return throttle. All mowers shall have blades removed."
Fees will be $20 early registration, $25 on race day.
The event usually attracts about 30 lawnmowers, most that can run in the 20 to 30 mph range.
The Big Back-In is run by volunteers and fueled by donations from racers, fans and local businesses.
The public is welcome to come out and enjoy the action.
