Larry Harmon, 81

Larry Harmon went home to be with the Lord on Friday, June 4, 2021.

Larry was born Oct. 26, 1940, and was raised in Hayden Lake on the Steele family homestead. Larry attended the “old” Hayden Lake Elementary School, and graduated from CHS in 1957.

After graduation, Larry joined his father at Potlatch Mill while also attending NIC. After two years at NIC, Larry embarked on what would become his career as a teacher. With changes to certification requirements, Larry eventually got his education certification from the University of Idaho. Until 2001, Larry would teach in Post Falls, Coeur d’Alene, Lakeland, and overseas for the Department of Defense.

Larry met his wife Page while teaching for the Department of Defense. The time spent overseas would lend itself to stories that would be told for the remainder of his life.

In the early ‘80s, Larry took a brief break from teaching, while taking on the role of Parks, Recreation and Cemetery Director for the City of Post Falls. Larry was responsible for getting programs started that are still running today along with writing the initial grants for the Post Falls Boat Launch, Q’Emlin Trail System, and the basketball courts at White Pine Park.

Larry touched the lives of many, and he treasured the relationships that were built with his colleagues and students over the years. Never one to forget a name or story, Larry would relive events from his career as if they happened the day before.

One of Larry’s favorite things to do was to get a room laughing. Using stories from his childhood, tales of times overseas, or simply by telling jokes, Larry had a gift of lighting up the room.

Larry is preceded in death by his wife, Page Harmon. He is survived by his two sons, Scott and Brad (Staci) Harmon, granddaughters Jensyn, Kensley, Keely, and Faith, grandson Aiden, and great-granddaughter Oakley. He is also survived by his sister Patty (Cecil) Booth and brother Jimmy Harmon. He had multiple nieces and nephews.
