June Gittel, 87

| June 8, 2021 1:00 AM

June Arlene Emehiser was born on July 26, 1933, to Albert and Irene Emehiser. Born and raised in Coeur d’Alene, she graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1951. She then went on to attend Kinman Business University while her high school sweetheart, Delmar Gittel, was in the service. In 1953 when he returned, she married him and about a year later they had their first child, Sandra Husby. They would later go on to have three more: Terry, Ron, and Scott Gittel.

After graduation June went on to work for Lloyd Henry Insurance, and would continue to work in insurance until her retirement. She made an impact on the community there, becoming an agent and founding member of the local Insurance Women’s Association.

For June, her family was of utmost importance. If any one of her many relatives needed help, she was there. She was a prolific knitter and every family member had slippers for years. Her house was always the gathering place for birthdays, holidays, and funerals. She was happy to be a pillar of support for the family, and made doing so look easy. She enjoyed many years at the family’s lake cabin, cooking and caring for everyone, watching generations make memories together.

She was also a generous member of the CDA community. She was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church, as well as a Campfire Girl and Leader. She loved to bake, and always had goodies in the freezer in case the church needed something for a funeral, or in case the kids dropped by.

In the last years of her life, she cared for her husband in their home until his death in 2018. She then moved to Orchard Ridge Senior Living where she was well-cared for, and passed away there on March 3, 2021.

She is survived by her sister, Carol Enders; children, Sandra, Terry, Ron, and Scott; daughters-in-law, Debbie and Sherri Gittel; grandchildren, Jeremy, Adam, Josh, and Tim Gittel, Kristi Granier, Emma Campbell, and Tyler Robb; and great-grandchildren, Parker, Hailey, Natalie, Miley, Jackson, Kendall, Amelia, Harvey, Eloise, and Roan. She will be missed by her many nieces and nephews, cousins, lifelong friends, and everyone who knew her.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, June 13, 2021, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Coeur d’Alene. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to Hospice of North Idaho in her name.

Yates Funeral Home is in care of the arrangements and you may visit June’s online memorial and leave condolences at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com
