John S. Hanson, 90

John Soren Hanson, 90, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, passed away on April 12, 2021. John was the first child to be born in the USA on June 22, 1930, to Anna and John P. Hanson in Cook County Hospital- Chicago, Ill. After graduating from Crystal Lake High School in 1948 he went on to proudly serve in the U.S. Air Force and Navy. Following the service he married Joan C. Wenzig, where they resided in Crystal Lake, Ill. going on to have three children, Eric, Victoria and Matthew. He was a hardworking carpenter for the union for 48 years, along with building multiple personal homes in his spare time throughout the Crystal Lake, Ill. area. He enjoyed restoring planes, antique cars, “junking," playing cards and sharing his many life stories. John belonged to the Antique Car Clubs as well as the Coeur d’Alene 55+ Singles Friendship Group which he co-founded.

John is preceded in death by his parents Anna and John P. Hanson along with his six siblings Paul, Thor, Reuben, Karl, Jack and Nancy McCaffrey. He is survived by his previous wife Joan Claire; his children Eric (Rebecca) Hanson, Victoria Bennett and Matthew (Lisbeth) Hanson; and his seven grandchildren, Peter, Madeline, Samantha, Claire, Lily, Kai and John.

A memorial luncheon in his honor will be held for friends and family at the Coeur d’Alene Sun Aire Estates clubhouse June 17, 2021, 3 p.m. - 6 p.m.
