Arson reported at Silverwood Theme Park
A fire reported at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday morning at Silverwood Theme Park is arson, according to a Kootenai County Sheriff's Office press release.
Once on scene, security advised Kootenai County deputies and the watch commander that they had been on a routine patrol and found one of the wooden roller coasters on fire. They were able to use a fire extinguisher to put the flames out before it was able to spread.
Further investigation showed it appeared unknown person(s) gained access to the park and set fire to a wooden support member of the roller coaster, KCSO officials said in the release. The state fire investigator was called to the scene to assist with the investigation that is ongoing.
KCSO would ask that anybody who observed any suspicious vehicles or persons in the area of Silverwood near the time of the incident, please call and report it.
“Nobody is more familiar with your neighborhood than you," Sheriff Bob Norris said. "Vehicles parked on a road or area that doesn’t normally have a vehicle parked there could be a clue that criminal activity is involved.”
Norris encouraged residents to report suspicious vehicles and individuals that appear suspicious or out of the ordinary for their neighborhood.
