Fairgrounds annual summer service day success

| July 29, 2021 1:00 AM

COEUR d'ALENE — The Kootenai County Fairgrounds had to get creative this year at its annual summer service day. Disrupted supply chains impacted some projects, however, thanks to resourceful management, the fairgrounds was able to complete more than 300 hours of labor on Saturday.

Volunteers helped with multiple projects, including decorative prop displays, building set up, rodeo area work and hours of endless painting.

“We are so thankful for our supportive community involvement. Panhandle residents continually show up for the improvement of our beloved grounds. We still have a number of volunteer and fundraising opportunities available for the fair in August,” said Alexcia Jordan, fairgrounds general manager.

Jordan also mentioned the dynamic nature of the property, “The fairgrounds is more than just our annual state fair. For example, the north side of the grounds was activated Friday and Saturday for evaluated animals from the Brunner Fire in Athol.”

The North Idaho State Fair opens Aug. 20 running through Aug. 29 at the Kootenai County Fairgrounds in Coeur d’Alene. With 10 event days, the fair extended its arena shows with two nights of headliner concerts, monster trucks and demolition derby.

The Gem State Stampede will open with Xtreme bulls on Aug. 26, followed by three nights of PRCA rodeo. The annual summer event will also host the return of an open livestock show and expanded competitive exhibit departments. New attractions include the Los Moralitos Circus, Wild Science and daily community contests.
