STATE AA LEGION BASEBALL: Lums bow out one step short of championship round
TWIN FALLS — Coeur d’Alene’s bid to battle back into the championship round of the state AA American Legion baseball tournament fell short Sunday when the Lumbermen were eliminated by a 9-1 loss to the Twin Falls Cowboys at the College of Idaho’s Skip Walker Field.
The Lums, who went 2-2 in the tournament, finished 28-10.
Coeur d’Alene was held to four hits, two by shortstop Marcus Manzardo. The Lums’ lone run came in the fourth, trailing 9-0, when Jackson Scherr led off with a walk and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Liam Paddack.
Otho Savage struck out five, walked three and scattered four hits in a complete game for Twin Falls. He also went 2 for 3 with two RBIs. Magnum Hofstetter went 2 for 5 with a double and three RBIs for the Cowboys.
The Lums were bidding for their first state title in program history, and second trip to regionals. Coeur d’Alene made its only trip to regionals in 1979, when first-year Coeur d’Alene coach Darren Taylor played for the Lums.
