COEUR D’ALENE — A man accused of choking, threatening and stalking his former girlfriend is being held on $50,000 bail.

Anthony A. Jones, 31, of Coeur d’Alene, is charged with attempted strangulation and intimidating a witness, both felonies.

He is also charged with second-degree stalking and three counts of violating a no-contact order, all misdemeanors.

Coeur d’Alene police responded July 3 to a report of a domestic disturbance.

A woman who identified herself as Jones’s ex-girlfriend said Jones had forced his way into her residence, attempted to punch her and threatened to kill her.

The pair broke up in 2020, she said, after Jones allegedly choked her.

In the week leading up to the July 3 incident, Jones allegedly showed up at the woman’s home and workplace multiple times and threatened her.

Police placed Jones under citizen’s arrest and charged him with domestic battery in the presence of a child, a misdemeanor.

District Judge Patrick McFadden ordered Tuesday that Jones be held on $10,000 bail. He also issued a no-contact order between Jones and his ex.

While in jail, Jones reportedly called his ex multiple times.

Police obtained a $50,000 warrant for Jones’s arrest on several new charges, including attempted strangulation.

Jones was convicted of domestic violence disorderly conduct in Arizona in 2013, according to court documents. The case involved the same woman.
