McLean promoted to Post Falls police chief

POST FALLS — Capt. Greg McLean will be the new chief of police for the city of Post Falls, effective Sept. 1.

He’ll replace retiring Chief Pat Knight.

Mayor Ron Jacobson and the Post Falls City Council appointed McLean to the role Tuesday night.

“We are thrilled to promote Capt. McLean to the position of chief of police,” Jacobson said. “Greg is a highly qualified law enforcement professional.”

McLean began working for the Post Falls Police Department as an animal control officer in 1989.

He was hired as a full-time police office a year later.

One of the department’s first motor officers, McLean has also held the positions of field training officer, detective, patrol sergeant and patrol lieutenant.

McLean currently oversees the investigations division, which includes the victim services unit, school resource officers, community services and cyber crime.

Jacobson said McLean’s experience and his proven leadership abilities will help the Post Falls Police Department continue providing a superior level of service to the community.

The appointment will also enable a smooth transition.

“Being able to replace Chief Knight with Capt. McLean will allow the department to continue the culture that has been created over the past many years,” Jacobson said.

McLean’s goals reportedly include reducing crime in Post Falls, as well as reducing the fear of crime among residents and visitors.

“I truly look forward to both the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead,” he said.
