WAKE: What a mess

| July 4, 2021 1:00 AM

I purchased a home 16 years ago for the water and to avoid the heat – tough to do these days! While Idaho respects individuals’ freedoms and opposes overregulation, Tuesday’s Commissioner meeting was a blatant disconnect.

Public commentary on Monday had four times as many people speaking in favor of the existing ordinance defining excessive wake — requiring wakeboats with ballast or foils to stay 150’ from docks. The new ordinance disallows boats with ballast or foil or driving off plane, affecting more than just wakeboats and eliminating two sports.

At Tuesday’s meeting Brooks requested tabling the vote for further discussion of Monday’s topics; Duncan agreed. Astoundingly, Fillios accused Brooks of “copping out,” saying they had agreed on the 24th, prior to public meeting. Fillios then forced a vote. Brooks and Duncan desired discussing matters further to reach a fair and representative approach, while Fillios ignored public majority and the Sheriff, who stated KSOC opposed the new ordinance and preferred educating the 150’ law. I could not be sure Brooks fully understood the vote due to poor audio quality.

Fillios was negligent in his fiduciary duty. He disregarded his advisors, his fellow commissioners and the majority of his constituents. He forced a vote rather than inviting debate to strive for successful resolution. Watch the videos and form your own opinion.

People have a right to know and it is not easy to learn of pending meetings or votes, or even what and who will be subject to these new laws.
