PREP WRESTLING: Post Falls rumbles to 10th straight title at Cd'A tournament
COEUR d’ALENE — Once things got back on Track, the North Idaho Rumble went about as smooth as could be expected.
Post Falls won its 10th straight Rumble team title, with Lane Reardon (145 pounds), Ethan Miller (160) and Isaiah Laguna (195) winning individual titles.
Tyson Barnhart (106), Roddy Romero (120) and Avery McSpadden (126) were runner-up for the Trojans, who finished with 260 team points.
Coeur d’Alene’s Gunner Giulio pinned Eli Richards in the 170-pound championship bout and Ryan Rogers pinned Reuben Thill of Lewiston in 1:22 in the 195 title match. The Vikings finished third in the tournament.
“We were hoping to finish a little higher, but had a good tournament overall,” Coeur d’Alene coach Jeff Moffat said. “American Falls wrestled really well in the finals, and won all four of their championship matches. We didn’t wrestle as well in some of the consolation matches, and those points add up. We just need to get back in the room and continue to get better.
TrackWrestling, an online program most — if not all — schools use to score matches during duals and tournaments, crashed nationwide, delaying the Rumble for 45 minutes.
“We were cruising right along until then,” Moffat said. “But it was all over. Once it went down, they told us it would be back up within 20 minutes, so we were able to keep things moving pretty close to when we figured we’d be done.”
Riley Siegford (145), Lucas Williams (132), John White (182) and Sam Feusier (285) were runner-up for Lakeland, which finished fourth with 181 points.
Lake City’s Matthew Whitcomb pinned White in 2:41 in the 182-pound championship match.
“It was a four or five point match when they wrestled in our dual (Jan. 13 at Lakeland High),” Lake City coach Corey Owen said. “It was 3-3 after the first period, and John was right there. He shot a double-leg, and Matt caught him and pinned him. With the way Matt’s been wrestling, you just can’t do that. He’s wrestling well and I’m excited for him coming down the stretch.”
Timberwolf Logan Parson pinned Jackson Kohal of Coeur d’Alene for third at 285. Zach Macdonald (second at 98), Blaine Leonard (fifth at 120), Elijah Aguilara (sixth at 126) and Grey Shinkle (sixth at 182) also placed for Lake City, which finished eighth with 112 points.
Caldwell's Aiden Go, who beat Romero of Post Falls in the 120 final, was named the Justin Allen Most Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament. Allen, a former Coeur d'Alene High wrestler, was killed in a motorcycle accident in 2010 at the age of 20.
