Crain, 10, a homeschooled student in Hayden, earned a qualifying score in the Elite Compulsory session at the Fiesta Bowl Invitational in Chandler, Ariz., on Jan. 22, and will now move on to compete in Elite Optional, which is a step closer to a possible Olympic team berth. Avant coaches say Crain is the first to accomplish this jump in Idaho. "Lavi exhibits all qualities of the best athletes," Avant coaches said. "She has self-discipline, commitment to hard work and above all heart and character."
