Robert Lee Huber

| January 20, 2021 1:00 AM

On Dec. 30, 2020, Heaven's gates opened to welcome Robert Lee Huber.

Bob was born Feb. 8, 1938, to Frank and Mary (Hoerschgren) Huber, in Kellogg, Idaho. He grew up in the family home up Latour Creek, in Cataldo, Idaho. Bob passed away after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's.

Following his education, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged.

Bob married the love of his life, Caroline (Carlson) Huber, on Oct. 11, 1959. Their union was blessed with five children and 55 years of marriage together. The couple made their home and raised their family in Pinehurst, Idaho. Bob worked at Bunker Hill at the Smelter Machine Shop for 20 years until its closing in 1981, then worked as a machinist for many years at NW Machines in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, until his retirement.

Caroline passed away on May 17, 2014 and Bob continued to live at the family home in Pinehurst before moving to Coeur d'Alene in 2018.

Bob was a spiritual person who sought a place to worship at Silver Valley Worship Center in Smelterville, and that filled his heart with joy. Bob was active in the life of the congregation prior to his illness and loved the Lord and His Word. He discovered a life-long passion of hunting and fishing at an early age and spent as much time as he could outdoors with family and friends. As his family grew, every vacation he would load up his kids and they would head out (most likely to the St. Joe River) for camping, hunting and fishing. His love of sportsmanship was passed on to his children, who continue to spend as much time as they can outdoors.

Bob had a green thumb and loved spending time in his garden. He fed many people with all that he grew in that huge garden of his. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, always extending a helping hand to those he knew. He was a self-educated man — a jack-of-all trades. He loved wood-working, auto mechanics and metal fabrication. He was one to never be idle, and he accomplished much in his lifetime.

Bob is lovingly remembered by his five children: Matt (Misty) Huber of Kellogg, Mark Huber of Idaho, David Huber of California, Rob (Polly) Huber of Vidalia, Ga., and Clarissa (Kelly) Bailey of Post Falls. Becoming a Grandpa/Papa completed his dream. He was blessed with 11 beautiful grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, and he loved each and everyone of them. They always put a smile on his face. He loved and cherished his family very much and he was the best dad and grandpa ever.

Bob is survived by his three siblings: Jean Meyer of Pinehurst, Larry (Sharon) Huber of Hayden, Idaho, Gary Huber of Hayden, and he is also survived by his sister-in-law, Ilene Huber of Cataldo. Bob also leaves behind numerous, loving relatives and special friends.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mary; his wife, Caroline; and his twin brother, Don Huber.

We would like to give thanks to Renaissance and Hospice of North Idaho for all of their wonderful care of our father. As we grieve the loss of such a wonderful, caring man, we are also thankful and blessed for all the wonderful times and memories that we have shared and how he touched all of our lives in such a special way.
