NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Former Lake City High softball star Casey Stangel has been named director of operations for the football program at Vanderbilt University, new Commodores head football coach Clark Lea announced.

"Casey is a pro," Lea tweeted. "Engaging, passionate & hard working, she will lead our ops effort & help engineer the nation's best student-athlete experience. Casey will be a difference maker for us, just as she was for @VandyBoys. We welcome Casey & her husband from "across the street."

Stangel, a 2013 Lake City grad who led the Timberwolves to a pair of state 5A softball titles, moves across the street on West End after three years with the Commodore baseball program, including their 2019 College World Series championship team. She spent the 2020 season with Vanderbilt baseball as its internal operations coordinator, serving the program in the areas of baseball operations, team travel, camps, clinics and team events.

"I am extremely thankful to @Coach_Lea for this incredible opportunity," Stangel tweeted. "I could not be more excited! There is no one better to lead the @VandyFootball program than Coach Lea and I am honored to be a part of this staff. Let’s get to work!!"

Stangel received her bachelor’s degree in communications from Washington, where she was a three-year letter winner as an outfielder and pitcher with the softball program. As a senior captain in 2017, Stangel led the Huskies to a third-place finish at the Women’s College World Series. She received her master’s degree in leadership and organizational performance from Vanderbilt.

Shortly after playing in the Women's College World Series, Stangel served as an intern in the commissioner's office in Major League Baseball.
