BARS: Cd’A gets it right

| February 26, 2021 1:00 AM

Thank you for the article about rowdiness. A big thanks, also, to Chief White and all the members of our police department in doing what they can to keep our downtown safe, and to our city council for looking into this problem.

Like so many of us, my family is a recent transplant from the Seattle area. One of the reasons we moved here was to escape the hellhole Seattle has become because of its city council’s unwillingness to enforce the law.

Another reason we came to North Idaho is because of Washington state government’s draconian enforcement of, in my opinion, unconstitutional laws.

It was nice to see that our council wants to both keep our city safe, the No. 1 job of government, but also not just “do something” for the sake of “doing something” and passing more laws that don’t do anything other than restrict law-abiding citizen’s rights to enjoy themselves.

My grandmother used to say “nothing good ever happens after midnight” so imposing a curfew wouldn’t really affect me, but I’m, nonetheless, grateful that this wasn’t the first thing the council jumped to and is, instead, going to take the time to deliberate.

One idea, if the majority of the troublemakers are from out of state (as the article seemed to suggest), we might address them in a different way. I was always taught that when I’m a guest in someone else’s house (or city), I should be on my best behavior. Washingtonians, you are welcome here, but please be respectful of our city.
