Lakeland leaders laud district's track record

| February 20, 2021 1:00 AM

We are proud of the fact that our district supported our community by being the only Region I district that committed to in-person education five days a week for this entire school year.

In addition we offered an online option which allowed families to make the choices that best fit their situation. We, the secondary administration of this district, now seek our community’s support in the upcoming supplemental replacement levy on Tuesday, March 9, 2021.

As you are aware, Lakeland Joint School District #272, along with over 80% of school districts in Idaho, must rely on supplemental monies to bridge the gap between state funding and actual costs. In this current economic climate, the district cannot sustain a loss of supplemental educational monies garnered through levy approval.

Our district provides small community schools, award winning academics, extracurricular programs in which over 70% of our students participate, state of the art technology for instruction and communication, robust curriculum materials, and teacher training. Our secondary schools have one of the highest graduation rates in the state. Last year, our district graduation rate during the pandemic was 96.7% while the state average was 82%. Our consistently high graduation rate is a testament to the strong connection between our staff and students. We are living our daily mission: Every student growing every day, academically, social-emotionally, and behaviorally in all environments.

These supplemental dollars help support:

• Small, neighborhood schools

• Reasonable class sizes

• Extra-curricular activities

• Technology education

• Full 1:1 technology implementation

• Maintain current teaching and support staff

• Athletic Trainers

• Armed Guards and SROs

• Increased nurse time

As proud members of this wonderful community, we truly need your support especially during these tough economic times. In a small rural town atmosphere, we are more than just schools; we are neighbors, part of each other’s daily lives. We have been honored by our community’s on-going support! Please be sure to vote on Tuesday, March 9th.
