Avista Utilities' future rests in the hands of the public as it invites customers to participate in developing its electric and natural gas integrated resource plans.

"The integrated resource plan (IRP) looks at the next 20 years to determine how much electricity and natural gas will be needed and where those resources could come from while balancing reliability, cost, and environmental sustainability," an Avista news release said.

Included in the public meeting will be a presentation on each plan with ample time for questions and opportunities for in-depth discussion, the release said. Feedback from the public and stakeholders will shape the final plans before being submitted to state utility commissions.

A virtual public meeting on the topic will be hosted by Avista Wednesday, Feb. 24, from 5 to 7 p.m. and is open for all interested attendees at myavista.com/IRP.
