Nydia was born May 7, 1932, in Puerto Rico. After marrying the love of her life, Pedro Cruz Rodriguez, in 1951, they moved from Puerto Rico and ventured off to New York. Two children later, they packed up their belongings and in 1955, drove west to southern California.
After raising their six children in southern California, Pedro and Nydia moved north to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, in 1981. Nydia loved spending time in her flower garden, but most of all, she loved being surrounded by her family. Her home was always a welcome place for family and friends, where she never failed to insist on feeding everyone their favorite Puerto Rican rice and beans.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Pedro, in 2006, and is survived by her children, Peter Rodriguez and wife, Lori of Lancaster, Calif., Daniel Rodriguez and wife, Adriana of Porter Ranch, Calif., Enoch Rodriguez of Coeur d’Alene, Ben Rodriguez and wife, Ruthie of Coeur d’Alene, Yridia “DeeDee” Koontz and husband, David of Coeur d’Alene, and Kaeyrie Rodriguez and wife, Robin of Sacramento; and also the joy of her life, her 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. She has two sisters, Iris Aleman and Adela Soto-Fernandez of Puerto Rico and one brother, Jose Fernandez of New Jersey and also a dear friend for over 40 years, Dolores Hawkins of Coeur d’Alene.
Nydia was a woman of great faith in God and confident in Christ’s soon second coming. She was a member of the Coeur d’Alene Seventh-day Adventist Church and will be buried at the Prairie View Cemetery.
