EXTREMISM: Works both ways

| February 10, 2021 1:00 AM

Concerning the Op/Ed; Feb. 3, by Jim Jones. Yes, as he states, the USA “… has a serious problem with extremism…” We do have a severe, and profound cultural/political division. However, Mr. Jones presents maybe only part of the offending groups.

The six so-called “White extremist groups” he has correctly defined and should be a concern. However, he seems to have overlooked a couple of other extremist groups that this letter will point out; Antifa and Black Lives Matter. The last two groups have caused real significant damage in past years to many cities in the USA.

There are no places for any conspiracy extremists be they “White or any color’’ supremacy. My point in this letter is Mr. Jones failed, in his column, to point out the whole problem — the real extremism, the conspiracies come from organizations in addition to those he referred to; (CNN) “Law enforcement and federal officials say outside elements from both far-right and far-left groups are helping fuel the violent and damaging confrontations that have marred protests across the country.”

I do hope the omission was an oversight and it is recognized that quote from the Op/Ed, “… an assortment of individuals caught up in white supremacy, conspiracy theories and anti-government activities,” include other supremacies in addition to his six organizations; also should be added, Antifa and BLM.

Refer to activities in Portland, Ore., Seattle, Wash., Kenosha, Wis., and several other cities within the past year. These riots were activated by the aforementioned groups. A couple of headlines from last summer, “Portland and Seattle residents slam ‘weak’ response to Antifa riots” and “Momentum Continues for Portland’s BLM Protests.”
