'Stunt Pilot' on the right track

ATHOL — The “Stunt Pilot” is coming to life at Silverwood Theme Park.

Construction of the new roller coaster has begun and is expected to be ready for the new season when the park opens in May.

It joins Silverwood’s roller coaster trio of Timber Terror, Corkscrew and Aftershock, which came on about 10 years ago.

Silverwood posted pictures of its newest attraction Friday on Twitter.

“The Stunt Pilot will climb over 105 feet in the air and will take riders down a near-vertical dive with hairpin turns, aerobatic maneuvers and three inversions as it speeds through heart-stopping obstacles,” Silverwood posted.

It will be the first single-rail coaster in the Northwest, and only the third in the world.

Stunt Pilot is being developed by Rocky Mountain Construction.

Stunt Pilot's theme is based on the air shows that Silverwood hosted in its early years. The shows featured dazzling displays of aeronautic maneuvering and were held on the air fields at the rear of the park.

Silverwood powered through an uncertain 2020 season peppered by a pandemic and wildfire smoke.
