Daniel J. Hunt, 79
Daniel John Hunt went to be with our Lord on Jan. 29, 2021, at the age of 79. Dan was born on June 29, 1941, in Medimont, Idaho, to Charles Robert Hunt and Christine Roberta Hunt. He is the third out of seven children. In total there were five boys and two girls.
As a child his family moved many times throughout the Northwest. He was enrolled in 11 different schools during his youth. Some of his favorite memories are hunting with his dad, spending time with his siblings and playing every sport possible during his school years. He graduated from Gaston High school in 1960.
After high school Dan moved to Montana with the family, and he logged with his dad and brothers under the name Hunt & Sons. In 1962 he joined the Army and was stationed in Fort Hood, Texas, after training in Fort Ord, Calif. After serving two years in the military he received an honorable discharge and left in 1964 due to the untimely death of his dad. Shortly thereafter, he and his brother, John, moved to Los Angeles and stayed there until 1968. During this time, he attended classes at UCLA.
In December of 1968 Dan met Maxine Howard at church and they were married on March 22, 1969, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. They proceeded to start a family and welcomed their first child, Shannon, in 1970. Three years later they welcomed their second child, Michelle, in 1973. Last but not least, they had their third child, Jennifer, in 1976.
Dan and Maxine had a wonderful life together, moving to various places and raising their family. Dan and Maxine loved to vacation together and spend time with friends and family. In March of 2019 they celebrated 50 years together.
Dan was a very hard worker and entrepreneur throughout his life. He started DJ’s cabinet business in 1968, which later evolved into Custom Furniture and Cabinets (CFC). He was a very talented cabinet and furniture maker. In later years, he also ran Belco Remodeling. Whatever he put his mind to, he was always able to accomplish.
In 2000 Dan and Maxine moved to Arizona, where Dan worked for Huntwood Industries, owned by his brother Tim. He stayed with Huntwood until his retirement in 2020.
Dan is preceded in death by his father, Charles Hunt; his mother, Christine Hunt; his sister, Liz Cope; his brother, Leroy Hunt; and his wife, Maxine Hunt. Dan is survived by his children, Shannon (Chad) Hansen, Michelle (Joe) Price, Jennifer (Cary) Cole; as well as grandchildren, Mikayla, Nathan, Parker, Braden, Hayden, Morgan, Hunter and Landon. Dan is also survived by his siblings, Ruthe Norlander, John Hunt, Tim Hunt and Ted Hunt.
Our dad was a wonderful husband and father; always so loving, supportive and trying to make a memory out of everything he did. We’ll miss his sense of humor, generosity and love. He is now with Jesus and the love of his life, our mom, who he missed greatly. We love you and you will be missed every day.
The family would like to thank all of their family and friends for showing their love and support during this time.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m.Friday, Feb. 5, 2021, at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens. Yates Funeral Home is entrusted with final arrangements. Please visit Dan’s online memorial and sign his guest book at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.
