FOOD: Tale of the tax
Dear Legislators,
I am trying again to get your attention about the fact that Idaho taxes food! I am not talking about groceries; I am talking about the amount of carbohydrates and protein that humans must consume to stay alive and healthy. In addition, we humans also require clean water to survive.
Every community in North Idaho has food support systems to support the food insecure families we have — all of our faith-based organizations support them.
How can you legislators continue to tax food — and please don’t call it a grocery tax to work your way out of it. This is a tax on people who have to decide on what they can afford to buy to survive.
All of you know this is wrong. All you have to do is look in the mirror and say let’s fix this!
