County defers to ITD on Huetter Corridor
COEUR d’ALENE — Given the pending study by the Idaho Transportation Department to investigate transportation solutions including the Huetter Corridor, Kootenai County is putting discussions of zoning changes to accommodate the project on hold.
In October, the county’s Community Development Department announced that public meetings would be scheduled to gather input on zoning changes to accommodate the route that was slated for the Rathdrum Prairie.
Idaho Transportation Department is beginning a comparative analysis of alternate options to improve traffic flow in the county and statewide mobility. Options range from enhancing existing routes to building new ones, such as the long-discussed plan to expand Huetter Road.
“This project has been in the planning stages for two decades,” said Community Development Director David Callahan. “The Idaho Transportation Department recently took the lead on this project and until we know the outcome of their study, we have nothing to act on.”
Future updates on the study will be released by the Idaho Transportation Department.
