PREP BOYS BASKETBALL: Timberlake wins OT thriller
SPIRIT LAKE — Another night, another battle won by Timberlake with some pressure.
Raj Olivieri and Hunter Higgins scored 12 points each for the Tigers, who went 10 of 15 from the free-throw line in overtime to beat the Riverside Rams of Chatteroy, Wash., 55-52 in a nonleague game on Friday.
“It was a battle,” Timberlake coach Mike LaFountaine said. “The gym was full of people and the kids fought hard. We came out and played good defense to hold them to six points in the first quarter. Hunter had a great night and Raj was really a spark off the bench.”
Timberlake led 41-37 late in regulation, but Riverside scored to cut the deficit to two points, then converted another basket at the buzzer to tie the game. The Rams' player was fouled on the shot, but missed a free throw with no time left that would have won it.
Timberlake (2-0) hosts Wallace on Tuesday.

“Not overly thrilled with what we did tonight,” Lake City coach Jim Winger said. “We were careless at times; we were not very disciplined with our offense. I still think we’re breaking down on defense; they had some looks they shouldn’t. As well as I thought things went offensively on Tuesday (a 76-62 win over Mt. Spokane), I thought the opposite tonight.
“We definitely played with a little more urgency in the second half.”
Conrad Bippes, a 6-8 senior, scored 22 points for University (1-1).
