PREP VOLLEYBALL: Lake City captures Judy Fong Memorial Tournament

| August 29, 2021 1:22 AM

LEWISTON — A faulty iPad was the only thing not working for Lake City on Saturday.

The Timberwolves didn’t lose a set en route to capturing the Judy Fong Memorial Tournament, beating the host Bengals 2-0 in the title match at Lewiston High.

Lake City swept Genesee 3-0 and Sandpoint 3-0 in pool play, also at Lewiston High. The T-Wolves beat Moscow 2-0 in the semifinals to advance to play Lewiston, which beat Post Falls in the other semi.

“It was a good team win,” Lake City coach Michelle Kleinberg said. “Our serve-receive worked well, our defense was strong, and we served aggressively. The girls were attentive to the game plan. Lewiston has two really tough middles, and we did a good job keeping them out of system.”

No individual statistics were available for Lake City (5-0), because of the aforementioned iPad.

“Our setters, Nellie Reese and Ella Hosfeld did great, reading the block, and setting the hitters to give them room,” Kleinberg said. “And of course Hanah (Stoddard) did a great job hitting. And Aubrey Stennett was excellent from the service line.”

Lake City returns to Lewiston on Tuesday to face the Bengals in an Inland Empire League match.
