White seeks Hayden council seat
HAYDEN — Sandra “Sandy” White is running for Hayden City Council, Seat 4, held by Jeri DeLange.
"My goals are to preserve Hayden’s small-town feel, protect private property rights and stop taxation to pay for new growth," she said.
The Whites moved from California to Hayden over seven years ago after teaching overseas for 24 years. She said they have relatives in Hayden they'd visited often, so moving there was a natural transition after a local nonprofit asked them to join its team.
"Upon moving here we were able to buy our first little house and we are enjoying life in Hayden," she said.
White said she grew up "patriotic and constitutional."
"Since moving to Hayden, I’ve been more involved in Idaho politics. I’ve been noticing issues that were encroaching on homeowner property rights," she said. "I realized that changes were needed in our local government. I started going to local county commissioner and city council meetings, writing letters and being engaged."
Last April, she said she was one of the 1,700 Hayden residents who received a “Notice of Zone Change.” She said her research led her to conclude that the 2040 Comprehensive Plan and the new Future Land Use Map promote an increase in both population and density in developed and undeveloped areas in Hayden.
"After going to many Hayden City Council meetings, I realized that there needs to be a change, and I am part of that change," she said. "I look forward to using my college education, my life experiences and my integrity to serve my community."
White and her husband, Alan, have been married for 40 years, with three children and eight grandchildren. They're self-employed and do volunteer work with the nonprofit ROCK International, a worldwide Christian ministry.
White also teaches crafts to a group of home-schoolers that encourages entrepreneurship and cottage industries.
