BEACH: Lost, not forgotten

| August 27, 2021 1:00 AM

I grew up in Coeur d’Alene and moved away about 34 years ago. It was a great place to grow up and I have fond memories of all the things I was able to do there as a kid.

I was able to ride my bike all over town and to the beach. I still return almost every year with my family to visit and go to the beach. But this year I was very disappointed and upset to see Private Property signs on the beach in front of Lakeshore Drive. How does a public beach become private property?

I’ve been going to this section of the beach in Coeur d’Alene since I was a kid. And who owns this part of the beach? If it’s the owners of the houses across the street, this isn’t even on their property.

Every year when I come back there are more places that used to be public that have been purchased and are no longer accessible. Either that or you have to pay to use it. It’s so sad to see so much of the lakeshore and other areas being sold and destroyed by people building on it.

Apparently, the mayor and city council are more interested in making money than preserving the natural beauty of North Idaho. What a shame! I guess anything is for sale in Coeur d’Alene if the price is right. What’s next? Tubbs Hill?
