BOYS

SANDPOINT — Kohrt Weber and Bryce Allred scored two goals each for Lake City, which outshot the host Sandpoint Bulldogs 20-10 in a 4-1 win over at War Memorial Field in the season and Inland Empire League opener for both schools on Friday night.

“They play well and are two of my better players,” Lake City coach Alan Rich said. “They play really well together.”

Tyler Allred had six saves for Lake City.

“We’ve got some things to work on,” Rich said. “We’re still sorting out positional things, where to put players and that. My core guys, we’ve got a lot of returning seniors that have played together all four years. I’ve just got to figure out where everyone else goes.”

It wasn’t the start Sandpoint coach Tanner French was hoping for, but he realizes it’s a long season full of ups and downs.

“They’re still learning to play with each other and they’re learning a new formation, but I’m comfortable with what we’re doing,” French said.

Keyan Strock and Evan Darling had quality scoring chances down the stretch, but Lake City scored in the 67th minute to seal the win.

Sandpoint visits Lewiston next Saturday at noon.

COEUR d’ALENE — In the game of soccer, one good chance can be better than multiple if it’s done correctly.

For the visiting Bulldogs, it rang true to open the season.

Kiley Williams scored an unassisted goal in the 23rd minute as the Bulldogs beat the Timberwolves in the season and Inland Empire League opener for both at the Irma Anderl Soccer Complex.

“We dominated the possession today, and they scored on a counter-attack goal,” Lake City coach Matt Ruchti said. “We missed a play on the ball, they made a play. We had the chances and got the ball inside the 18 (yard line), but just weren’t clean in front of the net. We tested them the way we needed to inside, but didn’t put away the chances we had. Sandpoint always works hard and is organized. Soccer is a game where you give up one opportunity and don’t capitalize in yours, it can happen. It was a good game.”

Lake City travels to Lewiston on Tuesday.

Sandpoint hosts Moscow on Tuesday.
