Twelve students from eight high schools wrapped up an eight-week program with the Dig’nIT Intern Showcase on Wednesday at the Harbor Center.

The Dig’nIT High School Internship program from University of Idaho Coeur d’Alene places students ages 16-18 with innovative STEM-focused companies for hands-on learning.

This year, it placed students in Kootenai and Shoshone counties with 10 host companies. They worked 30 hours a week at $12.50 an hour.

Interns led projects in app development, cybersecurity, web design, network infrastructure, augmented and virtual reality, drone technology and GIS.

One intern, Laura Moler, came full circle with the Dig’nIT program.

As a middle school student in 2014, Moler participated in UI's Girls Coding Camp and has been hooked on computer science since. She interned with Cyber Self-Defense in Hayden and is moving into the dorms in Moscow this week to study computer engineering.

The program created 9 years ago by Charles Buck, associate vice president and center executive officer with the University of Idaho-Coeur d'Alene. Since, it has served more than 1,100 campers and interns.
