ELECTIONS: What to look for

| August 15, 2021 1:00 AM

My friend, David C., wisely stated, “Our system works when citizens of good character and intelligence are involved.” The same can be said of public servants.

So, let us endeavor to fix within ourselves and our governments what needs fixing. Let us move to improve what can be improved in our community to better serve its citizens who are promised certain rights and bearing great responsibilities.

Let the spirit of public service be the norm in the minds of our public servants.

Let us act to identify and be willing to reject those who seek public service in government for selfish, power-crazed and ego-boosting end means.

Let those of only honorable character, sound judgment and selfless objectives fill all public service rolls whether elected, appointed or hired.

In an election, it’s not easy to spot those worthy of our support from the con artists to avoid. A major indicator to look for — listen to their rhetoric. Avoid those who primarily promote themselves. Those who promote the health, safety and well-being of others with sincerity deserve earnest consideration.

Let us all act for the betterment of others and the health of our community.

Let us reject candidates who demonstrate self-serving and manipulative tactics.

Let us be truthful, kind and respectful to one another; let us have the courage and will to challenge those who are not.
