DOG PARK: It’s time, PF

| August 15, 2021 1:00 AM

Who owns Singing Hills Park? Does the city of Post Falls or the neighborhood that surrounds it? It can’t be both, because all the citizens of Post Falls are paying for these neighborhood parks: mowing, upkeep, playground equipment, watering, restrooms, and the workers that do all the work.

What is the budget for the maintenance and upkeep for these neighborhood parks? If the city of Post Falls feels that Singing Hills Park is for just the people who live nearby, then the city should turn over that property to the neighborhood and let them take care of their park for their own use.

Singing Hills Park is by far the most under-utilized park in the city’s system and a part of it would make a GREAT dog park. It would account for one acre out of a total of three acres within the park. Everything in that park would be upgraded as the Parks Plan shows (playground, parking, shelters, etc.).

I believe the neighbors would be opposed to any project placed in that big empty green field, like pickleball courts, another skate and bicycle park for our teenagers close by, etc.

The “not in my back yard” mentality cannot work throughout the entire city parks system. The other option is to sell the entire park space and put the money toward land in a different area.

Post Falls has some great parks; 26 of them, in fact. What they don’t have is a dog park.

KUDOS to Councilman Anthony for reaching out to local residents.
