GOP: Destroying community

Thank you John Goedde for your My Turn article Saturday, April 24.

I was born and raised in beautiful Coeur d’Alene and grew up in a community of a healthy mix of moderate Republicans and Democrats. While we may have had differing political philosophies, we respected each other’s views and overlooked differences as we enjoyed deep friendships with each other.

I’ve always leaned left but depending on who was running I have crossed the line, feeling that it was more important to vote for whomever I thought would be most effective rather than by party.

However, the Republican Party we now see in Coeur d’Alene has pushed me significantly further to the left side. This party, in my mind is not Republican. The “Republican” Party we now see in Idaho is autocratic leaning toward fascist.

I used to be proud to tell people I’m a Coeur d’Alene native. Not anymore. I’m embarrassed and heartbroken to experience what has and continues to happen in my home. If I didn’t have dearly loved family here, I would happily pack up and leave.
