CENSOR: The left-right divide

| April 23, 2021 1:00 AM

Madison Hardy wrote an excellent article about Republican Robert Fish and his refusal to censor library books. Hardy probably doesn’t know enough about the subject.

I understand “censor” as used here means to cancel, ban, prohibit, etc. There are some materials that should not be in any public library that promote violence or other conduct unacceptable to the community in general.

There are other materials that are inappropriate for minors but OK for adults. Theaters have movie ratings that try to restrict some topics from minors. Those kinds of materials should not be available to children but should not be “censored” from adults. These materials should be allowed but kept unavailable to minors.

America is now having a problem of censoring (banning) many classic books formerly enjoyed by minors (and many adults). Those on the left culturally are banning books they think are racist but allowing others that promote sexual experimentation and promiscuity.

The Wizard of Oz, Tom Sawyer, Winnie the Pooh, and the Doctor Seuss books are examples of good, classic children’s literature that the radical left has banned, but they promote books that promote sexual information to children that they should not be exposed to.

The terms “right” and “left” for political/moral descriptions go back at least to Solomon’s day. Solomon wrote (Eccliastes 10:2), “A wise man’s heart inclines him to the right, but a fool’s heart to the left.” There is nothing new under the sun.
