PREP ROUNDUP: Post Falls' Wood breaks school record in 800

| April 14, 2021 1:15 AM

TRACK AND FIELD

SANDPOINT — Post Falls junior Sammie Wood, running her first 800 meters of the year, broke the school record by winning in 2 minutes, 16.03 seconds in a meet which attracted five of the seven Inland Empire League schools to the David R. DeMers Track and Field Complex at Sandpoint High.

Ward usually runs the 1,600 and 3,200 for the Trojans. The previous record was 2:20.45 set by Anayah Brown in 2019, breaking a record that had stood for 27 years.

“Her coaches, Brian Trefry and Jessie Ward, put her in the 8, kind of a work on a little bit of speed day,” Post Falls coach Wade Quesnell said. “I don’t think it’s a surprise, because she trains so hard, and she’s so darn competitive.”
