John Edward Barbagello, Sr.

John was born Dec. 16, 1929, in Pittsburg, Pa.; the son of George and Agnes (Mroczhea) Barbagello.

John grew up in Pittsburgh, where he entered the Air Force in 1948 at the age of 18 and remained active duty until he retired in 1978. He then pursued higher education, earning his Bachelor’s in Psychology in 1974 and Master’s in Business Administration from California State University in 1977.

Chief Master Sergeant Barbagello served in the Berlin Airlift, Korea and Vietnam. During his time of service he was awarded the Bronze Star, National Defense Service Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, Korean Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Commendation, United Nations Service Military Ribbon, NCO Professional Military Education Graduate Military Ribbon, Joint Meritorious Unit Award Military Ribbon, and The Republic of Korea Army Presidential Unit Citation.

He was devoted to his wife, Ann Barbagello, for 39 years, and together they lived in Hayden, Idaho.

John’s interests include bowling, learning how things worked and then fixing them, beating the computer at Chess and beating everyone else at Words with Friends, and he LOVED going to brunch and spending time with family.

John is survived by his loving wife, Ann Barbagello of Hayden; four children: Janet Barbagello, JoAnn (Eric) Johnson, John (Joellen) Barbagello Jr. and Sharon (Gary) Wang, ; four step-children: Tim Quiroz (Shannon), Leonard (LaDonna) Quiroz, Laura Cherie (Greg) Adair and Joseph Quiroz; 20 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, April 16, 2021, and at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 17, 2021, with funeral services to be held at 10 a.m., at Yates Funeral Home, 744 N. Fourth St., Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Burial will follow at the Riverview Cemetery, 101 Lincoln Way, Coeur d’Alene, with full Military Honors.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Hospital or Kootenai Humane Society.
