BEACHES: The potty predicament

| April 14, 2021 1:00 AM

Due to the pandemic and people working from home last year, summer brought more local Idahoans, as well as many tourists from Washington (due to their shutdowns) to our two very small Sander’s Beaches. These beaches were very crowded all week long and even more so on the weekends.

This made me think about the lack of bathrooms (there are none). Where do you think all these people are “eliminating” when nature calls? Yep, you guessed it — in our lake! Now multiply that by a few hundred people using the lake as their bathroom on a daily basis all summer long! Disgusting.

I had the luxury of walking 100 yards to my house to use a bathroom but many came by car or walked a few blocks to get there. Do you think their children are going to “hold it” for hours until they get home? Nope.

So my question is, why aren’t there bathrooms on these beaches? We pay huge property taxes here in downtown Coeur d’Alene, you would think the city could afford to place a few port-a-potties on the two beaches May-September for our lake’s sake.
