Hayden to auction Ramsey Road house

A house on Ramsey Road in Hayden will go up for auction to help offset costs of a roundabout on Ramsey and Honeysuckle Drive.

The house, 8755 N. Ramsey Road, which takes up the southwest corner of the intersection, cleared a Sept. 22 hearing and was approved to be sold at auction. City officials are putting together the final package for the just-over-quarter-acre lot, valued at $220,000. Per state code, minimum bids must meet or exceed valuation.

The lot in its current boundaries is actually a half-acre, but the city is keeping the right-of-way, as well as easements, for the impending roundabout, tentatively scheduled for next year.

“I’m excited about the roundabout,” Melissa Cleveland, community and economic development director for Hayden, told The Press. “”We’re just really trying to acquire the right-of-way, so we’re in the process of right-of-way negotiations right now, and it can be a time-consuming process.”

The original bid deadline of Oct. 8 has been erased. Once the final package has been put together, a new deadline — most likely closer to the end of October, according to city administrator Brett Boyer — will be announced.

“Once the public advertisement gets noticed sometime next week, people can then submit bids,” Cleveland said. “Just like any other auction, it’ll get posted, and that will be the starting date. People can then put together their bid package. It’s a sealed bid, so people will seal their bids in an envelope.”

The city purchased the house in 2017 with the intent of keeping the right-of-way.

The decision to auction the property came after a Sept. 22 hearing. The Press erroneously reported Tuesday that the hearing was scheduled for Sept. 29.
