Charter boys, Bonners Ferry battle to draw

| September 22, 2020 1:00 AM

POST FALLS — An evenly-played games between two evenly-matched Intermountain League rivals produced an even result on the scoreboard.

Host Coeur d'Alene Charter and Bonners Ferry each tallied a first-half goal, but were shut down in the second half of a 1-1 tie on Monday afternoon at The Fields at Real Life Ministries in Post Falls.

"(Bonners Ferry) is one of our big competitors, and they're a good challenge for us," Panthers coach Justin Nitti said. "We had a couple good scoring chances in the second half, but overall it was an evenly-played game."

Charter senior Ronan Malaghan opened the scoring midway through the first half, controlling a long ball before drilling a shot into the upper left corner of the net from 20 yards out.

"That was a phenomenal goal," Nitti said. "It's one of Ronan's first games back from injury, so hopefully that will get him going for us."

The Badgers evened the score late in the first half as Daniel Walker broke free up the right side of the Charter penalty area, then crossed the ball to teammate Nick Eastman, whose goal tied the game at 1.

Miles Taylor frequently moved up from the goal line to challenge Walker and other Bonners Ferry forwards, keeping the Panthers in the game.

Charter (1-2-2 overall, 1-0-2 IML) returns to action on Wednesday at Timberlake.
