Greensferry Bridge restoration project on agenda
The Post Falls Highway District is welcoming public comment on the Greensferry Road bridge's possible restoration over the Spokane River.
A public meeting is set for 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Q'emiln Park Trailhead Event Center, with presentations at 6:30 and 7. All remaining time will be given to the public for an open discussion with project staff.
After being discussed by the district for several years, the project is expected to ease road congestion and improve safety officials' response times.
The proposal is still in the early stages, but some local homeowners have expressed opposition. Don Wells of Post Falls said the bridge would be better suited to connect at Huetter Road or Seeley Street.
"A bridge at Greensferry would only be a little over a mile from the Spokane Street Bridge in Post Falls, and still a long 8 miles east to the bridge at the US HWY 95 in Coeur d'Alene," Wells said in a written statement. "At Huetter or Seeley Street, the most motorists would be served (creating a) funnel effect from the middle river area, including Harbor Island."
