McKenzie challenges NIC board chair

| September 8, 2020 1:00 AM

Greg McKenzie has filed to run for the North Idaho College Board of Trustees representing Zone 4 in Kootenai County.

“I am excited for this opportunity to contribute back to our local community," he wrote in a press release. "I aim to be a good steward of taxpayer dollars and assist NIC to fulfill its stated mission to support the present and future workforce in northern Idaho. I see the value in available educational opportunities for the community and seek to support all lifelong learners.”

McKenzie graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering in 2010. Utilizing distance learning, Greg also graduated with a M. Eng. Acoustics in 2020 from Pennsylvania State University. He has been married for 10 years and is the proud father of four kids. Greg has lived in North Idaho for the past seven years.

As a research engineer for the past seven years and maintenance engineer prior to that, McKenzie’s focus is on technology and how it can improve lives. He realizes technological advances begin in the learning process and is motivated to encourage others to learn.

McKenzie has been often drawn to the NIC campus through his engagement with the nonprofit Gizmo-CDA that has been partnering with the college.

McKenzie is challenging the current chair of the board and trustee for Zone 4, Joe Dunlap. He wishes to remind everyone that every Kootenai County voter gets to vote for each zone’s NIC Trustee, but the trustee candidates must live within the respective zones. McKenzie is still actively working and would be plummeting the average trustee age with his 33 years of life experience.
