PREP FOOTBALL: Lakeland, St. Maries fall out of playoff mix

| October 31, 2020 1:25 AM

POCATELLO — Ammon Munyer scored on a 14 yard touchdown pass from Devon Suko in the third quarter for the Lakeland Hawks, which fell short to the Century Diamondbacks 17-14 in the opening round of the state 4A playoffs on Friday night.

Suko caught a touchdown pass from running back Thomas Calder to tie the game in the second quarter for Lakeland, which finished 3 of 13 on third-down conversions.

Lakeland had a chance to answer the late field goal, but turned the ball over on a fumble to allow Century to run out the clock.

“It was a back and forth game,” Lakeland coach Tim Kiefer said. “We had a bit of a problem stopping the run early on, but made some adjustments. They started throwing a little bit, but our guys did a good job of keeping them at bay. It was just that short field at the end that got us.”

Lakeland finishes 3-5.

Century (6-3) hosts Bishop Kelly (7-1) next weekend.
