LETTERS: Right back at you

| October 30, 2020 1:00 AM

Wow, I really must respond to the two letters in last Friday’s paper, one from Oregon and one from Washington.

While the Oregon letter was really just throwing shade on Idaho for what was perceived as Idaho’s irresponsible behavior toward COVID, the Washington letter was full of vitriol, self-righteous indignation and outright political hatred and it is this attitude I wish to address.

How very noble of you to have stayed home for several months. For those of us who work that is not possible. Clearly, you don’t.

How noble that you masked up, gloved up and socially distanced. Altruistic? Not likely. But you should indeed protect yourself.

I’ll say it for the hundredth time:

If you’re over 55, otherwise vulnerable or just don’t want to get sick, mask up, don a space suit, whatever. But don’t ask me to take responsibility for everybody else in the world, that’s their job.

I’m not sure why either letter writer wants to toot the horn for Oregon or Washington. I’m in the real estate biz and believe it when I say people from both those states, particularly King County and Multnomah County, are moving here in droves, driving up prices and taxes, because what is happening in Seattle and Portland is nothing they want any part of.

And to the both of you, please feel free to never set foot in Idaho and tell your friends, too.

PATRICIA HATCH
