NIC: Support Dunlap, Sturm

| October 28, 2020 1:00 AM

Who is best positioned to provide oversight of the college? This homeowner/taxpayer says Joe Dunlap and Paul Sturm.

Candidates McKenzie and Barnes have conveyed a singular interest, namely fiscal responsibility. During Press forums, McKenzie disagreed with aspects of NIC’s spending and argued that it needs to make tough decisions. At the same time, he criticized closing outreach centers and shuttering the Aerospace program. Those are tough decisions made. If residents are concerned about fiscal oversight, Trustee Banducci, running unopposed, has demonstrated strong and sufficient advocacy in this area.

Barnes continues to push a false narrative that NIC funds BLM with tax dollars. Trustee Wood and the college proved this false. Recently, Bloomberg Businessweek published a piece detailing Idaho’s growth and noted it “…increasingly relies on global trade for its America-leading combination of robust personal income, job growth…”

Spaces for conversations regarding diversity are important, especially from a career readiness standpoint. Businesses of all sizes communicate with global suppliers and awareness of these trends is important. Students are being shortchanged if we ignore this reality.

Joe Dunlap has 24 years in education, including his time as president and trustee at NIC. Paul Sturm has 34 years of experience in educational leadership. Each demonstrated a commitment to these roles by prioritizing participation in forums. Their challengers have declined opportunities, most notably at NIC.

We need leaders motivated and invested in the college and community. Vote Dunlap and Sturm, who have a proven track record of successfully representing all stakeholders through balanced stewardship.
