ELECTION: Qualified? You bet
Oops! I read the LTE by Robert Flagor, Kootenai-Shoshone Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisor. I read the follow-up article by Craig Northup concerning three of the candidates for this board.
Flagor stated the three candidates were not qualified to serve on this board. Northrup repeated that statement in his article. You might expect a citizen to be uninformed, but a reporter should have taken time to check facts.
Wes Evans, a candidate, owns 80 acres, owns 31 head of Red Angus and leases 180 acres of land. Notice I said he OWNS. He does not owe anything to any bank. Evans has used KSSWC on his farm to control erosion. He’s fully aware of this board’s purpose. The KSSWC website shows that Evans is just as qualified as some and more qualified than others that are on the board currently.
Steven Van Zevern, a candidate, grew up on a farm. His family was involved in dairy farms, crop farms, almond and pear orchards.
A big part of a board member’s responsibility is to know how to create and stick to a budget and make sure the employees doing the work are held responsible to the taxpayers.
John Minichino is another candidate. He’s done research on what this board is tasked with doing. His Facebook page shows his knowledge of this board.
Evans and Van Zeveren have managed multi-million dollar budgets. The kind of experience this brings to the board ensures taxpayers are fully represented. A vote for Evans, Minichino and Van Zeveren on this board is a vote for experienced people.
