PREP ROUNDUP: Sandpoint swats away Lakeland in snow
• FOOTBALL
RATHDRUM — Sandpoint’s Cody Steiger broke up a pass in the end zone on the game’s final play as the Bulldogs held off the Lakeland Hawks 6-0 to clinch the 4A Inland Empire League championship at Corbit Field on Friday night.
With the win, Sandpoint (3-4, 2-0 4A IEL) locks up an automatic berth to the state playoffs, which start next weekend. Both Moscow (3-1, 1-1) and Lakeland (3-4, 0-2) could still advance if they fall within the Top 16 in the MaxPreps rankings when the regular season concludes today.
Gerrit Cox scored the lone touchdown of the game on a 61-yard punt return in the second quarter for Sandpoint.

PRIEST RIVER — The conditions weren’t that great, but the outcome was for the Tigers, who clinched their third-straight Intermountain League title with a win against the Spartans.
Ashton Peightal ran for 83 yards and a touchdown and Luke Fortin carried for 74 yards and two touchdowns for Timberlake, which limited Priest River to 60 total yards.
“There was probably six inches of snow on the field,” Timberlake coach Kelly Amos said. “It was a good, solid, team effort. We had some turnovers on offense, but team-wise, it was a good effort in all three phases.”
Luke Fortin also returned a fumble 33 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter for Timberlake.
Timberlake (4-3, 3-0 IML) has a first round bye in the playoffs, and will host a team on either Nov. 6-7.
Priest River finishes 0-6, 0-3.
