Man faces felony over stolen gun
POST FALLS — A man was charged with a felony after police allegedly found him in possession of a gun that was reported stolen in Minnesota.
Andrew T. Dupont, 44, is charged with grand theft by possession of a stolen firearm, a felony, as well as with driving under the influence, carrying a concealed weapon while under the influence and possession of an open container by a driver, all misdemeanors.
Idaho State Police pulled Dupont over Oct. 17 after he allegedly failed to yield to traffic while pulling out of a gas station and crossed the dotted white line on Seltice Way.
Police said Dupont’s breath smelled of alcohol and his speech was slurred.
After police located a concealed carry holster on Dupont, he allegedly told police there was a loaded pistol in the passenger seat. Police found the pistol at the feet of the driver’s side seat, according to court documents.
Dupont reportedly provided breath samples of .199 and .188. In Idaho, drivers with a blood alcohol level of .08 or more are considered legally impaired.
Dupont also told police there was a second firearm in a hidden compartment in his vehicle’s trunk. The loaded pistol was reportedly confirmed stolen by the St. Paul Police Department, according to court documents.
Police arrested Dupont at the scene.
A judge ordered Monday that Dupont be released on his own recognizance.
